Almost all of our time in Kruger will be spent as a self-drive safari. Therefore, we thought we would splurge for an ultimate safari adventure. This gives us a chance to sit back and let an experienced guide do the looking and the driving.

After much research, we chose Hoyo Hoyo because of its location, recommendations and the fact that it has a maximum of 12 guests at a time. During our stay, we only had 4 couples in residence. Perfect for an individualized safari experience.

Hoyo Hoyo is a beautiful property nestled along a riverbed in the southern part of Kruger. Each couple has their own rondel with a patio and views of the park. Hoyo Hoyo is not a fenced property, so you have to be alert when coming and going to your room. At night, you are escorted.

On the far side of the river bank, they have installed a waterhole that attracts various animals during the night and day. It’s easy to spend the time between safari drives reading and watching what comes to drink.

During our stay, we went on six game drives. Each day starts with a morning game drive at 5:30 am and lasts until around 9:00 am. Breakfast is then served upon your return. Lunch at 1:30 pm. Then at 4:00 pm, you head out for the afternoon game drive with a stop in the bush for a sundowner cocktail. Then, back in the bush mobile for night game viewing and a return around 7:00 for another wonderful meal.

If you are looking for the perfect safari experience, then Hoyo Hoyo is the place to stay. Their staff is incredible! The food was amazing with many vegetarian options. Jeff opted for the local meat options: ostrich, kudu, venison and beef. Hands down the ostrich filet was outta this world tender and flavorful. Hoyo Hoyo just can’t be beat.

Weather Update

When we arrived in Kruger, we were having temperatures in the low 90’s during the day and mid 60’s at night. When we arrived at Hoyo Hoyo, we had a temperature drop to 59 as our high and 52 as our low. So, if we look all bundled up in these pics, we were! Thankfully after four days, the warmth has returned.
